HISTORY

In the fall of 2018, three students at George Washington University came up with the idea to develop a professional fraternity for aspiring archaeologists. These students — Holly Starr, Lexi Simms, and Cece Chisdock — recruited classmates and friends to join their budding organization, hosting interest meetings to see which of their peers shared their passion for the study of the ancient world. Together, they recruited fellow GW students Matthew Kerwin, Sophia Carroll, Kelsie Ehalt, and Elly Cordiner, creating a diverse team of students studying classics, ancient languages, archaeology, and sociocultural anbiological anthropology.

On February 11, 2018, these seven students formally initiated themselves as the Founding Class of Delta Iota Gamma Fraternity. On the edge of the Reflecting Pool, looking up to the Lincoln Memorial, they swore to uphold the standards and values of quality academic study, to remain faithful to the fraternity, and to aid in the future development of new members.
